How to Turn $20 into $100 in Ten Easy Steps (Or at least how I managed to do it)

September 08, 2012

Before we get started, as a disclaimer this is not intended to be financial advice but rather encouragement. Below I have jotted down the simple formula which I have used to do just what the title claims - turn $20 into $100. The steps are easy to follow and the process only requires a bit of time and patience, an eBay account (or any online trading site you prefer) and the product of your choice. The process works. Anyone can do it. So here's how it's done... Step One: Find an item of interest that you know something about and that you can easily reproduce or purchase at a low cost, preferably less than $10. Step Two: Use $10 to purchase or manufacture the item. Step Three: List the item on eBay or any online trading site of your choice. Use the remaining $10 to cover listing and success fees. Obviously, list the item for more than it cost you to purchase or make. On that note, make sure the price you sell the item for is enough to: 1. Cover what you pa...

Pimp My Hundred Bucks - Part Twenty Three

Imagine for a moment that I’m a chubby dude running up a very long and frighteningly steep hill and I’m trying to explain my week to you between long drawn out death defying puffs of air. I’m deep breath still wheeze trying sudden burst of hyperventilation to gasp reach groan the top flatulence of huff this puff HILL!!!! Chances are I’m about to fall over so you’d best get out of my way because death by human donut could occur any moment now. That’s how I feel about this marathon to reach $500. Not only am I a snail trying to run a race with birds but I’m a fat snail recovering from an Easter binge. Seriously I did some working out today with a mate who is sixth dahn in Karate. He was kind to me but within only ten minutes I was choking and spluttering on the grass and that was just from the stretching. He worked me hard until I sort of flopped on the ground like a melted i...

Pimp My Hundred Bucks - Part Five

October 29, 2012

Ok, so last week as your eyes drove away from my blog to more important things like real life, you left me like a kid who had been dropped off at the wrong kid’s birthday party. I’ve been eating their food and using their bathroom and have only just figured out that I don’t have a clue who any of these people are… and still no one else has noticed. I have been the first to admit that I find myself in completely unfamiliar territory when it comes to business. The dreaded “B” word – “bu – is – ness”… it passes very uncomfortably through my lips. Years ago I went through a boiling surge of musical creativity; I wrote songs about love, life and about being a loser. Every poor soul with ears who came within a guitar pic’s throw of me and my six stringed torture-tool was forced to endure my latest hit, which came as a deluge of passionate wailing and trademark angst; and yet to my very great surprise (now, not then) I was often asked for an encore. People would say to me, “Why don’t ...

Do Children Go to Heaven?

December 31, 2012

Watch out everyone, it’s a Biblical viewpoint! You better duck because here it comes! Every now and then a theological question pops up in my brain like flash fire and the only way I can put it out is if I write about it. My apologies if the Christian worldview offends you but here it is anyway… Sorry about the disclaimer but my blog site is a bit like what we Kiwi’s call a Lolly Scramble, we do them at kids parties (or used to when I was a young lad, now days they’re just dangerous) where someone throws a handful of assorted candy into the air and yells, “Lolly Scramble!” and then a million kids come stampeding into the throw zone like piranhas fighting over a cow who chose the wrong part of the world to take swimming lessons. Sometimes, you get lucky and pick your favourite sweet, other times you might get something you don’t like – my blog site is a bit like that. However this brief tackling of the question above is for my readers who do like this sort of thing and for thos...

Pimp My Hundred Bucks - Part Thirteen

January 26, 2013

Approximately four weeks ago I left you facing the possible End of the World, what an anti climax that was! So much for the Mayan Apocalypse! But it’s not all bad news; I get to continue toward my goal of turning $100 into $500 without having to worry about the earth shaking me to death, for now at least. However I do find myself facing a less global catastrophe and a more internal disaster – I have no idea what to write today! It seems my three weeks under the Australian Sun has either fried my brain or programmed me to enjoy doing nothing more than anything else. Holidays are fantastic, especially the one I just got back from in which I read several books, swam every day and ate most of Australia’s supply of mangos and deep fried calamari… Sadly I always come back from Australia fat; the jeans that only just fit me before I left New Zealand now fit me as long as not doing up your fly is a fashion, which it isn’t, so they’re going on a holiday of their own until I can lose so...

The Commandments of Jesus Part One

Note to my usual blog readers: I am aware most of my readers will not be aquainted with my faith related blogs. You are more than welcome to continue reading if you are curious about my beliefs but I make no apologies if this does not meet what you may be used to from my corner of the bloggerverse! This particular series marks the beginning of an e-book I am writing reflecting aspects of Christ's teachings that I feel are neglected in modern churches today.... Introduction These days, in the churches I’ve attended at least, there is a tendency to recoil from a brother or sister who talks about “Commandments” and with an accusing finger say, “Get thee out from under the law!” As an example I was once asked whether I thought Smoking was a sin. I thought about it for a bit and decided, based on my finite understanding of Scripture, that yes it must be. So in the most non-judgment way possible (or so I thought) I vlogged my thoughts on this tricky subject on YouTube and explained why I...

The Christian Message in The Emperors New Clothes

September 08, 2012

I was clearing out old notes on my iPhone today and stumbled upon this little gem, I think I had intended it to be a Vlog but forgot I had written it! Oh well, hope this speaks to someone... Recently I found myself thinking about the Hans Christian Anderson story of the Emperors New Cloths. In case you haven't heard it before it is the tale of a king who had to have all the latest fashions, when one day two conniving tailors came along and convinced the king that they had the most expensive and fashionable outfit that money could buy, only they didn't really have anything at all, it was a scam, a scam so convincing that the King, not wanting to look like a fool, bought the outfit and went about his palace in the nude showing off his wonderful new "garment" to his attendants who were too afraid (and embarrassed) to tell the king the truth about his obvious nudity, that they played along with the deception. After a while even his lords and ladies were sucked...

The Cleverly Devised Poetical Dictionary of Difficult Words

Attention Regular Readers!!! My "little" dictionary now has a new home! Please check out: The Vocabuverse In my effort to take writing seriously I've realized that my vocabulary needs some renovating - extending to be exact. If the linguistic center of my brain could be described as a floor plan it would probably resemble something like a two bedroom unit with a living room full of children's toys and an over-sized coffee table, which strangely enough resembles the very house I live in. What I really need is to push out a bit with some bigger and more complicated words to make my tongue more mansionesque, to impress the onlisteners with words I didn't just make up. But let's face it, the dictionary is a boring read, which is just as well, because in this series I don't intend to read the dictionary so much as re-write it! Poetically. Join me here every week as this blog expands to become the one and hopefully only Cleverly Devised Poetical Dicti...

Calamari and Me

January 05, 2010

Tonight I am rather exasperated and my heart is decaying for lack of company. I’ve been on my own for nine days while my wife and wonderful child are in Ozzie lappng up the sunshine and all the other glorious gems in that great big red treasure chest. Here I am in cold but beautiful New Zealand, alone in am empty house that is so quiet I can hear my fingers banging away on the keyboard like they were angry chickens who had just walked into a KFC and seen what was on the menu… Because I am in this despondent mood I would like to talk about something that brings me much happiness. Something other than my wife and wonderful child because although they make me happy, their absence and the steady reminder of it makes me sad and leads me to iniquitous thoughts of eating more of those “hundreds and thousands cookies” I found in the pantry or the box of Cadbury chocolates that doesn’t belong to me…. Nope, I must harmonize my thoughts to brighter and nobler affections - such as Calamari. ...
